Nicknamed “Lo Stopper Gentiluomo” (The Gentleman Stopper) Guarneri is famed as being a tenacious defender who never received a red-card during his career. A crucial pillar of the Internazionale Team known as La Grande Inter (The Great Inter) between 1958 and 1967 he helped them secure, back to back, European Cup wins in 1964 and 1965, three Serie A divisional titles in 1962-63, 1964-65, 1965-66 and two Intercontinental Cups in 1964 and 1965.

Originally a right sided full-back he was paired with Armando Picchi at Inter Milan and converted into an elegant, yet powerful, center-back where he built a reputation for tackling, marking and possessing an exceptional positional sense.
Capped 21 times by Italy, debuting against Pele’s Brazil in 1963, Guarneri became a European Champion with the national team, on home soil, in 1968.
